BOLSTER AND TIXEL HAVE COME TOGETHER TO DIVE DEEP INTO THE EVER-CHANGING MINDSET OF THE AUSTRALIAN EVENT GOER.

The cover of the collaborative report, in the style of an event flyer with torn paper texture. Cover reads All Options Open: Ticketing State of Play 2022 by Tixel & Bolster.

For this report we went straight to the source - surveying 1200 event-goers to better understand the erratic behaviour we’re seeing on the ground post-pandemic.

This was followed up with consumer and industry interviews to contextualise and colour the data. The result is a clear snapshot of what a buying cycle looks like in 2022, along with insights to help us all learn how to keep moving tickets and selling out shows.

A TASTE OF WHAT'S INSIDE:

 71%
of event goers have changed their purchase behaviours post-pandemic.
 75%
of event goers list price as
the major barrier
to purchase tickets.
 84%
of event goers are more likely to buy tickets if they can be easily resold.
 3/10
is the level of concern event goers have for catching COVID at an event.

“During COVID, when we could do things, every state was under some sort of restrictions, the window of opportunity was small and ticket prices went up considerably. They seem to have stayed there. I think that's a blocking point.”

“I really think punters wanting full flexibility with tickets is here to stay. We see this in all areas of culture, why would ticket buying be different?”

Taylor James

"There are more events than ever, and this oversaturation has very different effects depending on the market segment. We’re seeing a huge rise in small and medium-sized events doing incredibly well. These events tend to have fewer barriers to entry and associated financial risk."

“I think we’re here where we are for at least another 9-12 months. Things should start to improve in the back end of next year. We still have a backlog of rescheduled events which need to be flushed through the system.”'
